\nEl 24 de Agosto de 2014, el sismo de magnitud 6.0 con epicentro al Sur de Napa, California, es m\u00e1s grande ocurrido en la Bah\u00eda de San Francisco desde el terremoto de Loma Prieta de Magnitud 6.9, del a\u00f1o 1989. A continuaci\u00f3n les dejamos el extracto del reporte oficial, el cual puede ser descargado del link que se encuentra al final de la noticia.<\/p>\n

\"The August 24, 2014 M6.0 South Napa, California earthquake was the largest earthquake in the San Francisco Bay area since the October 17, 1989 M6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake. Surface faulting damaged homes and other infrastructure when it traversed developed areas. The earthquake produced intense pulse-like motions that caused significant damage to older structures in parts of the City of Napa. Noticeably, there was lack of liquefaction-induced ground failure resulting from this event, even in areas previously identified as being susceptible to liquefaction. Dam and levee performance was generally excellent. Similarly, underground storage caverns at local wineries performed well. The most unusual damage was compressional and extensional failures of relatively stiff concrete sidewalks and curbs in the Browns Valley area. <\/em><\/pre>\n

In response to this extreme event, a collaborative group of earthquake professionals, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, through the Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance (GEER) Association, visited the affected area to document geotechnical effects and to assess seismic performance.
